So, the iPhone 17 is out, and while we’ve talked about a lot of the cool new features, there’s one fix that’s a really big deal for a lot of people, including me: the Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) flickering issue on OLED screens.
If you’ve ever found your eyes feeling strained or gotten headaches after using your phone for a while, especially in low light, you might have experienced PWM flickering without even knowing it. Basically, OLED screens adjust brightness by turning pixels on and off really fast. This is PWM. While it’s super efficient, for some folks, this rapid flickering is just… uncomfortable. It can lead to eye fatigue and other annoying symptoms.
For years, this has been a complaint with OLED iPhones. Older models had it, and while some people didn’t notice, others were really sensitive to it. Apple’s been tight-lipped about it, but it seems like with the iPhone 17, they’ve finally listened and, more importantly, provided a solution.
