Last of Us Part II Remastered: First-Person VR? Yes, Please!

Okay, so hear me out. The Last of Us Part II Remastered dropped, and it’s already looking sharp. But what’s got me really buzzing is the fan-made VR mod that’s apparently out for it. And yeah, the title isn’t lying – we’re talking about trying this masterpiece out in first-person.

As someone deep into AI and computer engineering, and with a past internship at a VR startup, this stuff is right up my alley. The idea of experiencing Ellie’s brutal journey, or maybe even Joel’s, from a first-person perspective in VR? That’s next-level immersion.

From what I’ve seen and heard, this isn’t an official Sony thing, but a dedicated modder community coming through. That’s the beauty of tech and gaming right now – the lines between official releases and incredible community creations are getting blurrier. And for a game like The Last of Us Part II, known for its incredibly detailed environments and intense emotional storytelling, translating that into VR and first-person view could be something else entirely.

Imagine creeping through the overgrown ruins of Seattle, the sound of Clickers echoing around you, but now you feel like you’re actually there. Seeing the tension on Ellie’s face up close, or the sheer panic when a Bloater bursts through a wall – it could be way more impactful. Plus, with something like the Meta Quest 3, which is getting better with every update, pushing these kinds of experiences is becoming more feasible.

I haven’t had a chance to dive into this specific mod myself yet, but I’m definitely planning to. The thought of how they’ve managed to implement first-person controls for combat, exploration, and stealth is fascinating from a technical standpoint. How do you handle the camera during intense close-quarters combat? What about those cinematic moments? Modders are seriously solving some wild problems.

This is exactly the kind of innovation I love seeing in gaming. It shows how passionate people are about these worlds and characters, and how they’re willing to put in the work to explore them in new ways. It also makes me wonder what’s next. If fans can do this, what can developers achieve with official VR support down the line?

What do you guys think? Are you as hyped as I am to potentially dive into The Last of Us Part II in VR? Have any of you tried out other ambitious game mods like this? Drop your thoughts in the comments below – I’m always curious to hear what you’re playing and experimenting with!
